Awards Spotlight on Tim Baum-Dixon

As part of our ‘Awards Spotlights’ series, we take a look at one of our Partners, Tim Baum-Dixon, who has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Partner of the Year Category at the 2021 Yorkshire Accountancy Awards.

Tim joined Hentons in June 2019 and was made a Partner on 1 May 2020. He has a very broad remit, and there is very little that Tim cannot turn his hand to, he has been a big agent of change within the firm and has made a noticeable impact. This has culminated in him being made a member of the firms recently constituted National Leadership Board.

Tim launched an ambitious Digital Plan in October 2019 with Xero at its core. This has seen the firm, which had a very small digital adoption, move to being recognised as one of the top three firms using Xero in the UK at the Xero Awards. This is the second time Tim has had a Team nominated for this award, having done the same as a Senior Manager with his previous firm in 2018.

He has driven this change and has pushed for the firm to embrace the efficiency and improved client service that cloud accounting technology can provide. At the start of the plan the firm had less than 50 clients on Xero, they now currently have over 1000 licences. Tim is the go-to person for digital software within the firm and across the wider business and accounting community.

Hentons Digital offering now spreads firm wide and covers a variety of service lines from a Small-Business low cost all in one model and general Management Accounts through to a Digital Projects team. A heavy investment is being made into training and upskilling staff on a national basis to ensure they are in a strong position to offer sound digital solutions, based on the Hentons AppStack.

Digital Accounts at Hentons now covers all things finance related, from daily bookkeeping to outsourced accounts. The service is very innovative, client’s accounts are now all sent with a Loom video where the client Account Manager talks through the accounts for the client, so that they can watch this when it is convenient to them.

Tim is the Lead Partner for the expanding Sheffield Office, where the firm is seeing current and potential growth. This office has grown from having two, to now having 10 members of staff, 6 of which have been recruited since May 2020. They are quickly establishing a reputation for excellent client service and their practices are being adopted across the whole firm.

He is a supportive leader and mentor, encouraging his team to undertake further qualifications to support their development and has supported and attended the firm’s leadership development course to demonstrate the partnerships support of this initiative. He rewards hard work and supports talent, recently promoting two members of his team to Manager and Director, both of whom are still in their 20s.

Tim is also responsible for Marketing and Business Development. The marketing team under his leadership have implemented a new CRM system, which was done during the challenges of lockdown. It included not just a CRM but a fully integrated marketing platform and a ticketing system which is currently being rolled out in Client Services.

Tim has led a project over the past 12 months to review the firm’s internal process, it included a project to standardise the way the firm operates across all offices and to centralise some of the firm’s administration services. A Client Services Team has been set up, who will be the guardians of the firms’ data, administration, and compliance, to support the firm’s rapid growth and drive more efficiency and profitability.

During the pandemic, Hentons set up a Crisis Management Team which Tim led. Bringing together specialist from throughout the firm which culminated in the firm being recognised as Business Heroes by the British Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking about his shortlisting, Tim commented ‘It’s great to be nominated for an award such as this but the real reward comes from doing a great job for our clients. I’m just a small part of a fantastic team who have been working hard to make our firm a great place to work and that offers great service to our clients.’
